Public Conversations Project
The Public Conversations Project grew out of a small brainstorming group formed at FIC in 1989, which thought to apply ideas from family therapy to polarized public conversations. In 1996, it achieved its non-profit status and moved across the street from FIC. PCP seeks to foster change in relationships among people who differ on issues of public significance. Even when differences have led to polarized conflict or silent cut-off, carefully designed and facilitated dialogue can alter the usual modes of relating among people with divergent values, identities, and world views. The PCP approach discourages polemics and dismissive remarks while encouraging thoughtful questions, authentic responses, and attentive listening. Such dialogues can shift modes of relating, and may lead to joint problem solving or other forms of collaborative action. For more information, you can email PCP at info@publicconversations.org, visit their website at www.publicconversations.org, or call 617-923-1216.
